Walk any KL supermarket aisle in 2026 and everything is "high protein" — protein cereal, protein cookies, protein chips, protein coffee creamer, protein water. The label has spread from supplements into every snack shelf in the store. Most of what's behind that label doesn't do much for someone who actually trains.
The label isn't the nutrient
A pack that says "10g protein added" sounds like progress. Read the ingredient list on most of these and the protein source is often collagen, wheat protein, or a small dose of isolate blended into a formula built for taste, not for training. Collagen in particular is missing the one amino acid that matters most here.
The number your body is actually checking for
Muscle protein synthesis — the process that responds to training — needs roughly 2.5–3g of leucine in one sitting to switch on properly. In practice that means about 25–30g of complete, high-quality protein per meal: chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, tofu. Below that threshold, extra grams from a snack barely move the needle. You're adding noise to the label, not signal to the muscle.
A snack with 5–8g of protein — even a "high protein" one — sits well under that line. Three of them across a day still doesn't add up to one real meal.
What clears the threshold in one go
A HiPro Chicken Meal Box is one whole 180g breast, pre-cut, nothing added:
- Ayam Rebus (poached) — 38g protein
- Ayam Panggang Cajun — 37g protein
- Ayam Panggang Italian Herbs — 40g protein
- Ayam Masak Pedas — 39g protein
Every flavour clears the 25–30g threshold on its own, from one food, in one sitting. No stacking a bar, a cookie and a shake trying to get there.
How to read a "high protein" label from now on
Two questions, every time: how many grams per serving, and where does it come from. If the source is a blend of isolates and collagen at single-digit grams, it's a marketing claim, not a meal. If it's a whole cut of meat, fish or egg at 25g+, it's doing the job.
